Travancore Letter Cards of 1898 & 1903

One Chuckram Letter card in an ornate design in lithographed (perforated - 12) with different shifts in design, size & colour of cards, as shown below.

These cards didn't survive long as they were not accepted by the public, unlike other cards.

 

'UNCLAIMED'..in rectangular black boxed postmark .

'UNCLAIMED'..in rectangular black boxed postmark...applied by the delivery post office, when a registered letter is undelivered after several futile attempts by the postman, to find the addresee, to get it delivered. 

At times, the addresee will unclaim it, fearing it might be an Injuction order / Intaas from the court. 

Most of these 'UNCLAIMED' markings are seen on the registered articles from the Judicial Court.

 Several reasons will be written by the postman on the cover for non-delivery...not found, death of the addresee, out of town, reluctant to take delivery etc etc. 

This marking is uncatalogued in Dr Mooss's book on Travancore. Here we find 4 different types..differences in the size of box & lettering.

 

1935 Postage Due..Taxed (T) envelope from Koravilangad to New York, USA.

1935 unpaid envelope from British Travancore Koravilangad (Postage due 2 Annas...in horse shoe cancel) to New York, USA with 10 Cents due cancel. 

 

Cochin Hundi 1941,1943 &1944 Interstate GREEN Hundi receipt send forth to Travancore.

Interstate Hundis are scarce & rare.

1941 Cochin interstate faint Green hundi receipt from Maharaja's Palace A.O. (Cochin) on 17 Thulam 1117, via Travancore transit station of Alwaye (19 Thulam) to Puthencruz (Travancore) on 20 Thulam.

Receipt returned from Puthencruz (21 Thulam) to Tripunuthara (22 Thulam).

Hundi marking seen @ Alwaye Anchal office.

1943 Cochin interstate GREEN hundi receipt from Thiruvambadi ( Cochin) to Vaikom (Travancore).
'HUNDI" postmark seen in Vaikam markings.
Relayed down & up thru' Ernakulam & Alwaye (transit stations of each state).

 

1944 Cochin interstate faint Green hundi receipt from Ernakulam A.O. ( Cochin) on 14 Thulam 1120 via Travancore transit station of Alwaye (15 Thulam) to Perumbavur (Travancore) on 16 Thulam.

Receipt returned from Perumbavur to Ernakulam (23 Thulam).

Travancore 1896 Eight Cash card from Pullinkunnu to Mannanam...Manuscript by Anchal Man.

1896 Cash Eight perforated card from Pullinkunnu(in manuscript by Anchal Man..71-6-23. Pulikunnu box) to Manannam.

'71-6-23 പുളിങ്കുന്ന്  പെട്ടി '..(വർഷം -മാസം - ദിവസം).

Interesting unusual card with manuscript in Malayalam mentioning the year, month & day...and Pulinkuunu box...though the circular franking of Pulikunnu is seen faintly along with Mannanam.

 

British India 1900 Victorian Wrapper from Verapoly (Travancore) to Wein, Italy

1900 Half Anna Victorian British India Wrapper from Verapoly (Varapuzha) to Wein, Austria.

 

British Travancore 1935 registered Sirkar (Govt:) letter from Quilon Cutcherry to Tinnaveli. Travelled to D.L.O.

 Registered official letter on a envelope (affixed with economy slip with 1935 Silver Jubilee of King George VI One Anna Mahabalipuram stamp & 2 definitive (4 As & 3 Ps) stamps) from District Court of Quilon signed by the clerk...to Tinnelveli.
