1942 Hundi acknowledgement receipt with MANKAD S. T. cancel

1942 Travancore Hundi acknowledgement receipt from Nedumangad to Pudukadai via Mankad S.T & Kalayikavilai Anchal offices.

MANKAD S.T. ... scarcely seen cancel.

Nedumangad 7 Kanni 118 (23/Sept/'42)

MANKAD S.T. 8 Kanni 118 (24 Sept)

 Kalayikavilai 8 Kanni 118 (24 Sept)

 Puthukada 9 Kanni 118 (25 Sept)

Mankad S.T. Anchal office has erroneously stamped in the Anchal 'office of issue' slot (rectangle box) instead of Nedumangad Anchal office (place name stamp cancellation missed by the Nedumangad anchal master)....hence the place name of  'MANKAD S.T.' pen striked @ Puthukad anchal office.

Transit points @ Kalayikkavilai & Mankad S.T.

Travancore do already have a 'Mankad' village..'Nedumangad". So the South Mangad was changed to Mankad S.T (Mankad South Travancore).

Mankad S.T. was part of Travancore Princely State till Nov:1, 1956.

At present, Mankad is a Village in Munchira Block in Kanniyakumari District of Tamil Nadu State, India.

1894 plain (indicium missing) envelope affixed with One Chuckram stamp from Manannam to Chagnacherry..Printing error?

Printing lapse?...

Red 2 Chuckram print missing (Deshyl Cat: E-5)?

1894 blank envelope affixed with 'Chuckram One' adhesive stamp from Manannam to Chagnacherry.

Interesting is that this envelope do have all the features of a 2 Chuckram envelope...

Laid cream paper.. 138x80mm..

Deschl Knife - 4a (K - 4a).

No embossed legend..

Similar to K-3..except for bottom flap angled chamfers.

 With bottom flap angled chamfers..9/10mm

Is it a missed stamping of indicia at the time of print by the Govt Stamp Manufactory @ Trivandrum when the folded envelope (stuck to the bottom of another) was taken up for printing.

The below mentioned details regarding the folded envelope, was taken from India Post Vol. 56/3(2022) No. 224 page#104..by Thomas Puthangady... 'New varieties in the first issue 1 Chuckram envelope'.

So there is every possibility of the indicium missing as this particular folded envelope must have stuck to the bottom of another envelope when taken up for stamping of the die.

1906..Registered letter to the Royal family of Edapally (ഇടപ്പള്ളി) from Mannar town (Thi-70).

Edappally Rajas ("Kings of Edappally", known to the Portuguese as Repolim and to the Dutch as Repleim) were the rulers of the late medieval feudal kingdom of Edappally (Elangallur Swarupam), which also included parts of Kallooppara, Karthikapally, Haripad, Cherthala, Vazhakulam (Muvattupuzha).

According to local legends and myths, the last king of the Later Chera dynasty divided his kingdom among his various chieftains and governors. At the last minute, he realized that he had not given any land to his royal priests - the Elangallur Namboothiris. He then took back some land from the chieftans and gave it to the royal priest family (Elangallur Namboothiris).. A new dynasty was created - the Elangallur Swaroopam or the Kingdom of the Elangallur family in Edappally.

Elangallur Swarupam is one of only two Brahmin royalties in Kerala. Edappally Rajas were great patrons of temples and also known as Edappally Thampurans (Lords of Edappally).

1898 Thi-32 (തി -32) Alleppey Piravaka (ആലപ്പുഴപ്രവക) to Quilon.. cancel errors.

1898 Half chuckram stamp affixed on private envelope from Alleppey Piravaka (Thi-32) to Quilon.

൩ /ആലപ്പുഴെ പ്രവക /മ 15. (1898/Alleppey Piravaka/ Feb 3)

73 instead of 1073.

൩ instead of ൧o൩.

A revised version of the last pre-stamp period cancellation.Interesting alphabet usage of ആലപ്പുഴെ (instead of ആലപ്പുഴ) & പ്രവക (പിറവക).

Not recorded in Dr Mooss's book of Travancore.

Quilon /Ma /16/73

(കൊല്ലം/മകരം 16/73..Feb 4, 1898)

'ന' with tail instead of '൬' ..one loop missing... Error...should be ൧൬.

Interesting usage of Allapuzhay (ആലപ്പുഴെ)..limited period of time where they used this.

And about Piravaka (പ്രവ്ക -- പിറവക), debate is still going on, whether Piravaka is  located near a market place (Peedika.. Angadi-- പീടിക സ്ഥല൦ -- അങ്ങാടി)
or is it in the vicinity of Judicial/Government offices?
Or Piravaka is a Suburb/Rural or Mofussil Anchal office?
